Which sentence best explains the United States' willingness to compromise on their human rights agenda when it helped meet its C

old War interests?
Although Salvador Allende was freely elected by the people of Chile, the United States feared that his Marxist views would pose a threat to democracy in the region. As a result, the United States actively worked to destabilize Chile's economy and to foster resentment against Allende. This led to the coup of 1973, during which General Augusto Pinochet came to power. Pinochet was responsible for the deaths or disappearances of more than 3000 of his political opponents. The United States maintained political and financial ties with Chile throughout Pinochet's regime.

How does Ashley Gilligan believe that the United States has changed since September 11?
Setler [38]

Answer: Since 9/11 the US has been active in wars but is only technically called “in conflict”. 9/11 was only the second act of war on american soil within the century following pearl harbor in 1941. This was also one of the first acts of terrorism using our own property, the planes. The adults that saw this in person or on the news no longer felt safe as we hadn’t had any breaches of security on our own soil and this was an act to instill fear and to start a war. Security at airports have been extremely raised since then and more background checks on visitors from other countrues
