In both cases, people decided the unite and set laws that would organize the government and how people would organize. The government had to follow the rules of both documents and people would be responsible for “electing” them.

I think the obvious effect that the Mayflower Compact had on the Declaration of Independence was that without the Compact, which acknowledged the sovereignty of the British Crown, there would have been no need to declare independence 150 years later.
