The difference between an authoritarian government and a democratic government is that the authoritarian government has complete power/ownership over the country and everyone within the country, while a democratic government the government has very limited power divided in three branches while the citizens choose who gets elected to be in high power on their behalf.

Authoritarian government is on the basis of authority. The leaders of the government control every central part of the government and make changes to the country without its citizens consent or say. Authoritarian government is a very risky/evil form of government because it gives the leaders of the government complete control over every aspect of a person's life that's including entertainment, (by restricting their citizens from different forms of entertainment such as video games) social, (controlling their beliefs and what they feel is wrong or right) and financial which is by limiting how much of THEIR OWN money they can have/spend.

A common example of an authoritarian government would be Russia. Russian citizens do not have a say in what the country does and that is including war. Which is why will see many anti-war protests from Russian citizens during these times, you will also see them getting arrested for these protests. Entertainment, social, and financial control over a group of people's lives is authoritarian.

Democratic government is basically where the citizens of the country have a complete say in who becomes an elected official for their country.  Common example of a democratic government is America. People in America choose who makes the decisions on behalf of them in government and Americans even have legislatures in place to make sure the government doesn't get too much power like separation of powers or checks and balances which divides the power between the three branches of government and the citizens are the ones who vote in the elected officials who will run these three branches of government.
