Answer: Women entered the workforce in large numbers during World War Il and performed well in their jobs. Many served in the Women's Army Corps. After the war, when men were taking advantage of the Gl bill and enrolling in college, women were unable to join in the higher education expansion. Their level of participation rose only slightly.
