What was the effect of Manifest Destiny on U.S. -indian relation?
Troyanec [42]

Manifest Destiny played a huge role in American foreign policy. It led to treaty negotiations with Britain over the ownership of the Oregon Territory. Manifest Destiny also led the United States to invade Mexico and then seize much of the West after the successful Mexican War.There were also negative effects of Manifest Destiny.

answerThis idea that it was their destiny to expand caused Americans to disregard the territorial rights of Native Americans, wiping out many tribes and causing a cultural divide, tension and wars. The negative effect that this had on Native Americans were lasting effects. Manifest Destiny also caused war and tension with Mexico for the same reasons. Manifest Destiny caused americans to feel entitled, greedy, power hungry, they wanted to be the best, which are poor qualities to have. Another negative effect was the affect this had on slavery. With the expansion came more farms, which in turn meant a greater need for slave workers, although Manifest Destiny later brought on debates about slaves, helping to end slavery.

do you think philip nolan was working with the united states goverment to take control of texas spain
kodGreya [7K]

Philip Nolan was an American who threatened Spanish rule. He was known as a filibuster (an adventurer who engaged in a private rebellion against a foreign country). At first he had permission by the Spanish government to enter Texas. The Spanish government became suspicious when he began to visit with General James Wilkinson. General James Wilkinson was the United States army commander of the American frontier that bordered Spanish Texas. The Spanish governor feared that Nolan was plotting to take Texas from Spain. The United States had been interested in Texas as far back as 1803 under President Thomas Jefferson. The Spanish always had a difficult time securing their northern borders. The Spanish governor warned Philip Nolan he would be arrested if he entered Texas again. Nolan ignored the warnings. Near Waco, Philip Nolan and 17 other men met up with soldiers near Waco. A fight broke out and Philip Nolan was killed. The men who were captured were taken to Mexico.
