Pok-A-Tok was a fast-paced ball game played by the ancient Maya of Central America more than 1000 years ago. Pok-A-Tok was played in teams of one or two players in all major Mayan cities.
The object of the game was for the two opposing teams to pass a hard rubber ball through the rivals' stone hoop placed at both ends of the court wall, often as high as 20 feet off the ground. Players were not allowed to use their hands or feet, they could only use their head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and hips.
