How did the encomienda system affect native society? It created a class system in which natives were considered inferior to Euro

peans. It led to the deaths of more natives in worker revolts and during migrations. It meant that native farmers could only raise crops for food, not for cash. It hurt traditional village life by taking men away to mines and plantations.

In spring 1861 people thought it would be a short and glorious war, therefore, reducing the long-term Anaconda plan of slowly squeezing the life out of the Confederacy like an anaconda. However, they discovered that it wouldn't be a short war and the union had to follow a plan which was similar to the Anaconda.
