The Populists demanded an increase in the circulating currency which was to be achieved by the unlimited coinage of silver, government ownership of the railroads to prevent monopolies, the direct election of U.S. senators, and other measures designed to strengthen political democracy and give the farmers economic parity with the larger business powerhouse.

Would the civil rights movements have been successful in gaining civil rights for African Americans without the help of the NAACP and the SCLC possibly but it would have taken much longer.  With the assistance of NAACP and the SCLC the civil rights movement was able to take a legal approach and based its principles on nonviolence and civil disobedience. it was necessary for African Americans to stand for their rights, as even when the 13, 14, and 15 amendments were passed, whites and congress still found ways around it.
