Marie has bought a plant which she needs to transfer from its cylindrical pot to the ground. The pot has diameter 10 cm and is 2

1 cm high. Marie needs to dig a hole 4cm wider and 5cm deeper than the pot. She then inserts the plant and fills in the rest of the hole with extra soil. (i) Calculate the volume of the hole Marie needs to dig. (ii) Before inserting the plant, Marie fills the hole with water. How much water will she need, assuming none of it soaks away? (iii) Marie is planning to paint the outside of the cylindrical pot excluding the top and bottom. Calculate the area to be painted

Using known formulas for cylinders, we will get:

  • i) 4,000.36 cm^3
  • ii) 4,000.36 cm^3
  • iii) 1,142.96 cm^2.

<h3>Working with cylinders:</h3>

We know that the pot has a diameter of 10cm and a height of 21 cm, and the hole must be 4 cm wider (so the diameter is 14cm) and 5 cm deeper (so the height is 26cm).

i) The volume of a cylinder of radius r and height H is given by:

V = pi*r^2*H

Where pi = 3.14, and the radius is half the diameter, so we have:

r = 14cm/2 = 7cm.

Then the volume is:

V = 3.14*(7cm)^2*26cm = 4,000.36 cm^3

ii) To fill a volume of 4,000.36 cm^3, you need 4,000.36 cm^3 of water.

iii) The curve surface of a cylinder is given by:

S = 2*pi*r*H

Remember that:

r = 7cm

H = 26cm.

Replacing that we get:

S = 2*3.14*7cm*26cm = 1,142.96 cm^2

So se must paint an area of 1,142.96 cm^2.

Find the slope of the line parallel to 2y= 6x + 8.<br><br><br> A. 6<br> B. -3<br> C. 3<br> D. -6
Vesna [10]

the given line is 2y=6x+8

let us find slope of this line using y=mx+b

so convert the given equation in slope intercept form,

2y=6x+8

divide both sides by 2

y=3x+4

slope m=3

two parallel lines have same slopes

so slope of line parallel to it is also 3 (option C)

Chisaka has less than 145kg of food remaining in her spaceship. She needs a constant amount of food each day that she spacewalks
Veseljchak [2.6K]
If Chisaka does not space walks, the days she spend spacewalking are equal to zero. Since <span>S represents the number of days Chisaka spacewalks, we just need to replace </span>S=0 in our inequality to find how long her food will last if she does not spacewalks:
2.22S+1.3N\ \textless \ 145
2.22(0)+1.3N\ \textless \ 145
1.3N\ \textless \ 145

From this calculation we can infer that the coefficient of N, 1.3, is the amount of food she needs per day if she doesn't spacewalks. Similarly the coefficient of S, 2.2, is the amount of food she need per day if she spacewalks.

We can conclude that Chisaka will need 1.3 kg of food if she doesn't spacewalks, and 2.2 kg of food if she spacewalks.

A rectangle has length 72 cm and width 56 cm. The other rectangle has the same area as this one, but its width is 21 cm. What is
Ira Lisetskai [31]

The length of the rectangle is = 72 cm

The width of the rectangle is = 56 cm

Area of the rectangle is = length*width

= 72\times56=4032 cm²

As given, the other rectangle has the same area as this one, but its width is 21 cm.

Let the length here be = x

4032=x*21

x=\frac{4032}{21}=192

Hence, length is 192 cm.

We can see that as width decreases, the length increases if area is constant and when length decreases then width increases if area is constant.

So, in the new rectangle,constant of variation=k is given by,

\frac{192}{72}=\frac{8}{3} or \frac{56}{21}=\frac{8}{3}

Hence, the constant of variation is \frac{8}{3}
