This is an example of eutrophication or succession. Eutrophication occurs when minerals, nutrients and soil gather up on the bottom of a body of water, and eventually it fills up. After this occurs a land ecosystem is made, and it slowly grows. Depending on the size of the body of water it can take  a year or hundreds of years.
