Well he protested and went in riots as he was one of the higher leaders. He spoke openly and was not afraid to do so. This got him arrested where he spent most of his life in prison. Along with all of the hate hate he got that was the main obstacles. Consequence was prison which he spent 27 years in. All of this for standing up to the government for South African human rights.
