<h3>Answer:</h3>

There are 40,320 ways, in which 8 books can be arranged on a shelf.

<h3>Solution:</h3>

Here, we are to find the number of ways in which 8 books can be arranged on a shelf. The total number of books is 8 and the way of arranging books is also 8.

  • If one book is placed in the first place, then 7 books will be placed in front of it. If 2 books are placed in the 2nd place, then only 6 books can be placed after that book. This sequence will continue till 1 .

<u>Permutations </u><u>:</u>

  • A permutation is an arrangement of objects in a definite order.

➲<u> P ( n, r )= n ! / ( n - r ) !</u>

  • n = total number of objects

  • r = number of objects selected

The number of ways to arrange 8 books on a shelf will be :

➝ P ( n, r ) = n ! / ( n - r ) !

➝ P ( n, r ) = 8 ! / ( 8 - 8 ) !

➝ P ( n, r ) = 8 ! / 0 !

➝ P ( n, r ) = 8 × 7 × 6 × 5 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 / 1

➝ P ( n, r ) = 40, 320

‎ㅤ‎ㅤ‎ㅤ‎ㅤ‎ㅤ‎ㅤ~ Hence, there are <u>40,320 ways</u> in which 8 books can be arranged on a shelf !

Renauld has to pay 2 percent in closing costs and 14 percent for the down payment on a purchase of $170,500. Over the life of hi
melamori03 [73]

Renaud has to pay 2 percent + 14 percent = 16 percent initial costs

We can establish a proportion:

If 100% is => $170,500

Then 16% =>  $C costs

$C = 16 x $170,500/100 = $27,280 initial costs

Total cost = $163,021.87 + $27,280 = $190,301.87

Answer : C.) $190,301.87

Determine for what values of x and y are the following equalities always true.
Agata [3.3K]
(k+1)x-(2k+3)y-3k-5=0
kx + x - 2ky - 3y - 3k - 5 = 0
(x - 2y) k + (x - 3y) = 3k + 5

therefore
x - 2y = 3
x - 3y = 5

Subtract 2 equations
y = -2
x = -1

Answer:

Lee has more pizza

Lee has 2.24 in^2 more than John

Step-by-step explanation:

step 1

Find the area of each slice of pizza

A=\frac{1}{8}\pi r^{2}

we have

r=16/2=8\ in ----> the radius is half the diameter

substitute

A=\frac{1}{8}\pi 8^{2}

A=8\pi\ in^{2}

step 2

Find the area of John's part (area of shaded triangle)

The measure of the central angle of each slice of pizza is equal to

360\°/8=45\°

so

the height of triangle is equal to the base

Let

x ---->the base of the shaded triangle

cos(45\°)=\frac{x}{r}

cos(45\°)=\frac{x}{8}

Remember that

cos(45\°)=\frac{\sqrt{2}}{2}

substitute

\frac{\sqrt{2}}{2}=\frac{x}{8}

solve for x

x=4\sqrt{2}\ in

Find the area of shaded triangle

A=(1/2)(4\sqrt{2})(4\sqrt{2})=16\ in^2

step 3

Find the area of Lee's part

The area of Lee's part is equal to the area of two slices of pizza minus the area of two triangles

so

2(8\pi)-2(16)=(16\pi-32)\ in^2

assume

\pi =3.14

(16(3.14)-32)=18.24\ in^2

so

Lee's part is greater than John part's

Find the difference

18.24-16=2.24\ in^2

therefore

Lee has more pizza

Lee has 2.24 in^2 more than John
