The Tongariro complex of volcanic cones and craters was formed by eruptions from at least 12 vents over more than 275,000 years. Erosion during the last Ice Age has worn away what was once a substantial mountain into the world famous hiking destination that it is today.

0.34 pts when extension and normal faulting result in fault blocks separated by high-angle fault planes near the surface, subsid
ioda

Tilted Fault Blocks also called as Rotational block faulting are the structures that are formed. They are formed in extensional tectonic events where the brittle crust fractures due to extension creating detachment faults and crusts gets tilted.

As tectonic plates separate during extensional tectonic events, tilted block faulting, also known as rotational block faulting, is a mechanism of structural evolution. Detachment faults are produced when extensional pressures are applied to the upper lithospheric crust. These typical faults manifest on a regional scale, with the ductile bottom crust ascending and the higher crust fracturing into tilted fault blocks. As a result, ductile deformed deeper crust is lifted, cooled, and exhumed. The substantial group of slanted blocks and related crust may make up a substantial portion of metamorphic core complexes, which are present in both continental and oceanic crust.
