During the February Revolution many armed Russian soldiers turned on their higher up's and started mutinous actions along the Eastern Front. This allowed the revolutionaries to gain more support through man power and more weapons.

Another English scientist, Thomas Brown, followed the steps of Gilbert and wrote many essays on electricity. And yes, of course, in 1742, founding father Benjamin Franklin conducted his experiment of static electricity with the use of his famous kite.
