Why is the answer D? I'm having a hard time with the logic of it.
hram777 [196]

Let's assume the opposite is the case. So let's assume that a = b is true. If so, then f(a) and f(b) would be the same output. This is because we can replace 'b' with 'a', or vice versa. In other words, f(a) = f(b) would be true. But this contradicts the original inequality that f(b) < f(a)

So that is why 'a' cannot equal b. We don't know if a > b or if a < b (unless we are told if the function is strictly decreasing or increasing on the interval from x = a to x = b), so we just leave it as a \ne b

22 less than 5 times a number f
Rasek [7]

Answer:

22-5f

Step-by-step explanation:

22 less then 5 would be 22-5 and then you have 5 times a number f so that would make it 5f so you would just attach the f to the 5. I hope this is helpful and is what you are looking for.

ololo11 [35]

Answer:

 • 154 adults
 • 108 children

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x represent the number of adults who swam at the pool. Then (262-x) is the number of children. Multiplying these numbers by the corresponding admission charge will give the associated receipts. We are given the total of receipts, so we can write the equation ...

... 2.00x +1.50(262-x) = 470.00

... 0.50x +393.00 = 470.00 . . . . . simplify

... 0.50x = 77.00 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .subtract 393

... 77.00/0.50 = x = 154 . . . . . . . . . divide by the coefficient of x

... (262-x) = 108 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .find the number of children admitted
