Answer:

The clam would die. This is because its cells would swell up and lyse. The freshwater is hypotonic to the cell’s protoplasm. Water, therefore, enters the cells through osmosis and the cell swell up until the water pressure inside causes them to burst. The cells die and therefore the clam is unable to survive in the freshwater.

The salt in the popcorn is taken up by the body and hence the concentration of electrolytes in the blood slightly increases. This causes a feedback mechanism to be  initiated by the body –hypothalamus in particular-  to restore electrolyte homeostasis. The thirst is as a result of an increase in antidiuretic hormone in the body produced by the pituitary gland.

Which of the following plants would you expect to grow lowest to the ground?
4vir4ik [10]
Among the listed plants above, the one that we can expect to grow lowest to the ground would be the hornworts. Hornworts are non-vascular plants which can be found both on water and land. Since these plants do not have a vascular system, it is hard for them to move water internally due to the force of gravity which explains why they cannot grow more above the ground.

Mnenie [13.5K]
B. a specific place on a chromosome where a particular gene resides.

A locus (plural loci) in genetics is the position of a gene on a chromosome. Each chromosome carries many genes; humans' estimated 'haploid' protein coding genes are 19,000-20,000, on the 23 different chromosomes. A variant of the similar DNA sequence located at a given locus is called an allele.

You analyze a dna sample which gives an a260 of 1.74 and a280 of 0.64. What is the concentration of this dna sample? Is it suffi
LenaWriter [7]

The ratio of \frac{A_{260}}{A_{280}}  indicates the purity of nucleic acid. For pure DNA it should lie between 1.8-2.0.Whereas for RNA it should be greater than 2.

This is calculated for DNA using the given values of absorbance-

\frac{A_{260}}{A_{280}}= 2.71

As the value is greater than 2.0,it reflects the RNA contamination in the sample.
