What would be the result if crossing over did not happen during meiosis in humans

The crossing over is a process that is essential to human genetic diversity. During the crossing over parts of the homologous chromosomes ( two chromosomes identical by structure, but different in origin, one inherited from the mother and one from the father) randomly exchange parts of their sequences.
If the crossing-over didn't exist, this would greatly decrease the genetic diversity, because the chromosomes would always bee passed o the next generations unchanged.

What would be the correct notation for describing a deletion in the short arm of chromosome 6 at region 2, band 4
Andrej [43]

The correct notation would be Del(6)(p24). The word 'del' means deletion.

What is chromosome notation?

Chromosome notation refers to alphanumeric notations used to identify certain chromosome arrangements.

In this case, chromosome notation denotes a deletion (del) in the short arm (p arm) of chromosome 6.

The stained band of the chromosomes in the karyotype is denoted by the number 24.

How does the location of the carbon in the sugar molecule differ between the strands
scoundrel [369]
During a dehydration reaction, two monomer molecules are covalently bonded to each other, with the loss of a water molecule. In this reaction, each monomer contributes part of the water molecule that is released during the reaction. This reaction is repeated as monomers are added to the chain one by one, making a polymer.

In squash, yellow seeds are dominant over green seeds. If two heterozygous yellow seed squash were crossed, what are the genotyp
Umnica [9.8K]

Answer:

The result of cross two squashes with yellow seeds is an offspring of squash with green seeds -dominant caracter- heterozygous and yellow seeds squashes in a genotype proportion 1:2:1 and phenotype proportion 3:1

Explanation:

The cross of two heterozygous individuals for a characteristic results in an offspring that will have both characteristics in pure and heterozygous form. It is a cross monohybrid which complies with the principle of independent segregation exposed by Mendel.

For the characteristic "seed color" the green color would be G and yellow represented as g.

At the cross of two heterozygous squashs:

- Parents: Gg X Gg

- Punnett's Square:

Alleles G g

G GG Gg

g Gg gg

Offspring:

  • A pumpkin of green seeds GG (25%)
  • Two pumpkins of green heterozygous seeds Gg (50%)
  • One pumpkin of yellow seeds gg (25%)

Genotype proportion 1:2:1

Phenotype proportion 3:1
