I think this is the way that the problem was given
Solve x−(−8)=2,  for x=6

If so then plug  (x=6)==> -6 -(-8)=2==> - 6 +8 =2, hence 2=2

This is just asking to solve the problem by putting the 6 in for x like,
6-(-8)=2
14 does not equal 2 so this is not correct, I hope that helps
