rectangle   + 2  triangle = total area

L x W          + 2    *  1/2 base * height   = total area

(5x12)          + 2    *  1/2 * 12 * 4    = total area

  60              +   48    = 108 cm^2

1. find area of rectangle      2. find area of triangles       3. add them together

area of a rectangle = bxh = 5x12 = 60

area of triangle = (bxh)/2 = (12x4)/2 = 24

60+24+24=108
