A 60 mm radium drum is rigidly attached to a 100 mm radius drum as shown. One of the drum rolls without sliding on the surface s

hown, and a cord is wound around the other drum. Knowing that end D of the cord
is pulled to the left with a velocity of 160 mm/s and acceleration of 600 mm/s?, both directed to the left, determine the acceleration of points A, B, and C of the drum.

The acceleration at points A, B and C are respectively; 960 mm²/s, 1600 mm²/s and 600 mm²/s

<h3>What is the acceleration?</h3>

The drum rolls without sliding and as such its' instantaneous center will lie at B. Thus;

V_d = V_c = 160 mm/s

Also, a_d = a_c = 600 mm²/s

Now, formula for velocity at A is;

V_a = r_ab * ω

where ω = 160/(100 - 60)

ω = 4 rad/s

V_a = 60 * 4

V_a = 240 mm/s

Acceleration at A = V_a²/r_ab

Acceleration at A = 240²/60 = 960 mm²/s

Now, V_b = 100 * 4 = 400 mm/s

Acceleration at B = 400²/100 = 1600 mm²/s

What is the first step necessary for initiating the visual transduction cascade in rods?.
irinina [24]

'Capturing a photon by<em> isomerization and rhodopsin </em>of retinal' is the first step necessary for initiating the visual transduction cascade in rods.

Visual transduction refers to the process in the eye where absorption of light in the 'retina' is translated into electrical signals that then reach the brain. It is correct to state that visual transduction is the photochemical reaction that takes place when light or photon is converted to an electric signal in the retina. The visual pigment in the rods, called rhodopsin, is a membrane protein placed in the outer segments of the rods.

When initiating the visual transduction cascade in rods the first vital step is to capture a photon by<em> isomerization and rhodopsin</em> of retinal'.

Assume that in orthogonal cutting the rake angle is 15° and the coefficient of friction is 0.15. a. Determine the percentage cha
alexira [117]

Answer:

Δr=20.45 %

Explanation:

Given that

Rake angle α =  15°

coefficient of friction ,μ = 0.15

The friction angle β

tanβ = μ

tanβ = 0.15

β=8.83°

2φ +  β - α  = 90°

φ=Shear angle

2φ + 8.833° - 15° = 90°

φ = 48.08°

Chip thickness r given as

r=\dfrac{tan\phi}{cos\alpha +sin\alpha\ tan\phi}

r=\dfrac{tan48.08^{\circ}}{cos15^{\circ} +sin15^{\circ}\ tan48.08^{\circ}}

r=0.88

New coefficient of friction ,μ'  = 0.3

tanβ' = μ'

tanβ' = 0.3

β'=16.69°

2φ' +  β' - α  = 90°

φ'=Shear angle

2φ' + 16.69° - 25° = 90°

φ' = 49.15°

Chip thickness r' given as

r'=\dfrac{tan\phi'}{cos\alpha +sin\alpha\ tan\phi'}

r'=\dfrac{tan44.15^{\circ}}{cos49.15^{\circ} +sin49.15^{\circ}\ tan44.15^{\circ}}

r'=0.70

Percentage change

\Delta r=\dfrac{r-r'}{r}\times 100

\Delta r=\dfrac{0.88-0.70}{0.88}\times 100

Δr=20.45 %

The in situ moisture content of a soil is 18% and the moist (total) unit weight is 105 pcf. The soil is to be excavated and tran
densk [106]

Answer: Volume= 1.16 yd³

Explanation:

We are given the in-situ moisture content= 18% and moist unit weight= 105 pcf

First we find out the dry unit weight

Dry unit weight= Moist unit weight / (1+ moisture content)

Dry unit weight= \frac{105}{1.18}

Dry unit weight= 88.983 pcf

Now, to find the volume ( in terms of each cubic yard i.e 1 yd³ we have

Volume = Dry unit weight compacted / Dry unit weight (in-situ) * 1 yd³

Volume= \frac{103.5}{88.983} * 1

Volume= 1.16 yd³

Nitrogen at an initial state of 300 K, 150 kPa and 0.2 m3 is compressed slowly in an isothermal process to a final pressure of 8
s344n2d4d5 [400]

Answer:

Work = - 4175.23 J

Heat Transfer = -4175.23 J

Explanation:

The work done in an isothermal process, is given by the following formula:

W = RT ln (P1/P2)

where,

W = Work done

R = Universal Gas Constant = 8.314 J/mol.k

T = Constant Temperature = 300 K

P1 = initial pressure = 150 KPa

P2 = final pressure = 800 KPa

using these values, we get:

W = (8.314 J/mol.K)(300 k) ln (150/800)

<u>W = - 4175.23 J</u>

Here, negative sign shows that work is done on the system.

In isothermal process, from 1st law of thermodynamics:

Heat Transfer = Q = W     (Since change in internal energy is zero for isothermal processes)

<u>W = - 4175.23 J</u>

Here, negative sign shows that heat is transferred from the system to surrounding.
