Elephants are a keystone species and play a pivotal role in shaping the forests and savannas in which they live. Knowing the imp

ortance of elephants, an international group of scientists conducted a census to estimate the number of African elephants. The Great Elephant Census data were released in August 2016, and unfortunately, the results reveal that African elephant populations have decreased by 30% in just the past seven years. Why do you think the number of elephants is declining?

Answer: Poaching is the main reasons behind elephant population decline

Explanation:

Although there are many factors that has brought about a reduction in African elephant population, such as loss of habitat and conflict with humans. But the main reason behind their population decline is poaching for ivory tusks, as confirmed by the researchers of the Great Elephant Census. The increase in demand for ivory in the Asian markets is the main reason. Ten and thousands of elephants are killed every year for their ivory tusks. The ivory is carved into ornaments and jewellery and sold in the market.

Answer:

Biodiversity

Explanation:

The reduction in the number of African elephant by 30% is called biodiversity.

Biodiversity is the reduction of a particular specie of animal . This is been facilitated by natural cause or man made cause. Of such natural cause include illness and diseases ,while the man made cause involves the harvesting of specific features of the animals.

In African majority of such decline can be attributed to man made factor because the African elephant trunks, hide and meat are been harvested and sold for high money value.

Marat540 [252]

Answer:

Light energy, Water, and Carbon Dioxide/Chlorophyll

Explanation:

Photosynthesis uses 12 water molecules, 6 Carbin Dioxide molecules and light energy so it can produce one glucose, six water and oxygen molecules. This can be expressed and represented by 12H2O + 6CO2 + light energy = C6H12O6 + 6H2O + 6O2

Vital to remember that the produced oxygen is from the original water molecules and not the carbon dioxide.

Analyze the data about nitrogenous base content of DNA from various species. Percentages of Bases in Five Organisms Source of DN
Troyanec [42]

Answer:

When analyzing data on the nitrogenous base content of the DNA of various species, the claims are supported by the data:

  • In any one species, the amount of adenine closely approximates that of thymine.
  • In any one species, the amount of guanine closely approximates that of cytosine.
  • The amounts of A, T, G, and C in DNA varies from species to species.

(options A, B and D)

Explanation:

Organizing the data has to:

Source of DNA A T G C

Streptococcus 29.8 31.6 20.5 18.0

Yeast 31.3 32.9 18.7 17.1

Herring 27.8 27.5 22.2 22.6

Human 30.9 29.4 19.9 19.8

E. Coli 24.7 23.6 26.0 25.7

DNA is the molecule that contains the genetic information of each species, formed by sequences of nitrogenous bases Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine and Guanine.

Since Adenine and Thymine -as well as Cytosine and Guanina- are complementary, the percentage of them will be very similar in each DNA molecule.

The genetic information -which determines the physical and functional characteristics of each organism- is encoded in the DNA and is different for each species, so the percentages of nitrogenous bases vary from species to species.
