Answer:  Lydell Grant, acknowledging that he was wrongfully convicted of murder has only meant purgatory, nearly seven months of it. He is neither free nor behind bars, nor can he restart his life. The laggardly movement of his case for exoneration, which his supporters say only underscores the frustrations and larger belief that systemic racism is ingrained in the justice system, has left him in a different type of cage. A jury convicted Grant of the 2010 fatal stabbing of a man outside a Houston bar, sending him away for life. Grant spent his days in prison reading about the legal system and writing letters to whoever he thought would take up his cause. Then, in 2019, with the help of a legal team with the Innocence Project of Texas and forensic scientists who used emerging DNA technology, new evidence was collected that convinced Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg to support a request for bond.Grant was released from a Texas prison just before Thanksgiving Day.In December, prosecutors confirmed that re-examined DNA recovered from the fingernails of the victim, Aaron Scheerhoorn, had yielded charges against a new suspect found through an FBI criminal database. Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said Jermarico Carter of Atlanta, who had a criminal record, confessed to having stabbed Scheerhoorn and was arrested. Acevedo personally, and publicly, apologized to Grant.

Before starch can enter a cell it must be digested to form simple sugars. Why?
Nataliya [291]
Starch is a high molecular weight substance; therefore, it is insoluble to our cells. It needs to be broken down to simple sugars like glucose in order for it to be dissolved/absorbed in our blood. This is because simple sugars has smaller molecular weights and are more soluble.

Peptide hormones a. are able to pass through the membrane and bind to a receptor in the cytoplasm. b. bind to a receptor in the
ozzi

Answer:

The correct answer is option B. It bind to a receptor in the plasma membrane.

Explanation:

Hormones can be aminoacid based hormones (peptide or amine) or the steroid base hormones on the basis of their nature. Amino acid based proteins are molecules that are proteins,

Peptide hormones are the protein or peptide molecule that release in blood by the exocytosis in the form of preprohormones that mature later and bind to the receptor present on the surface of the plasma membrane of the target cell. The binding of the peptide hormone to the receptors a secondary messenger shows up in the cytoplasm.

Thus, the correct answer is option B. It binds to a receptor in the plasma membrane.

There are 1000 micrometres (um) in a millimetre (mm).
Vesna [10]

Answer: The length of the cell in millimetres is 0.0015.

Explanation:

Given conversion :

1000\mu m=1mm

Thus 1\mu m=\frac{1}{1000}mm=0.001mm

Given : Length of the cell = 1.5 micrometers (\mu m)

To find: Length of the cell in milllimeters (mm)

Length of the cell in milllimeters (mm) = 1.5\times 0.001mm=0.0015mm

The length of the cell in millimetres is 0.0015.

Which of the following would be a virulence factor of a pathogen?
olga_2 [115]

Answer:

The correct answer is option - a surface protein allowing the pathogen to bind to host cells

Explanation:

Virulence factors are substances or molecules released by pathogens such as bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa that enhance their function effectiveness and enable them to get the following-

Attachment to host cell and surface.

Evasion of the immune response of the host.

Suppression or inhibition of the immune response  of host.

Getting nutrition from the host cells

Thus, the correct answer is option - a surface protein allowing the pathogen to bind to host cells.
