Job specialization is a strong historical feature of the Industrial Revolution. It happened during the early days of what we came to know as capitalism and gave birth to a society divided into social classes (C).
The Industrial Revolution radically changed the organization of labor the world knew so far. Inventions like the steam engine, leading to the steamboat and the steam locomotive, made the production process much faster, increased it to levels never seen before and reshaped society. This new accelerated production required different types and rhythms of work which created the proletariat and turned the bourgeoisie, a group who had been a few centuries in the making since Renaissance, into one of the most prominent of the society. From then on society would be defined by its class division.
