Step-by-step explanation: so, we have to make the bottom number the same as eachother or we will not be able to add effectively. So the first number that both 4 and 6 go into is 12, as you can see if we count by the numbers to get to the answer

So, now that we have that part figured out we would then have to multiply the top the same amount as we multiplied the bottom. So 1/4x3 and 5/6x2

So we would multiply both the top and the bottom the same amount.

1/4x3=3/12

5/6x2=10/12

So now that we have that figured out everything else is pretty straight forward.

We would add the whole numbers with eachother and the fractions with eachother.

8+3=11

3/12+10/12=13/12


so we can see that it would equal, 11 and 13/12 or 12 and 1/12
