The United States has a bicameral Congress as a result of the agreements prior to the sanction of the Constitution, where the states agreed to represent each of them in the federal legislature.

Thus, it was agreed that the Senate would have an equal representation between each state, while the House of Representatives would be constituted in proportion to the population of each of the states.

Likewise, each Senator is a representative of his state directly and lasts 6 years in office, while each Representative is representative of the citizens of his constituency and his term of office is 2 years.
