Graphs are used to represent real life models

To calculate the diameter, we substitute the value of x in the function,

From the complete question (see attachment for graph), we have the following observations

  • y represents the diameter of the cereal bowl
  • x represents is depth

The above statement means that:

y is a function of x

So, when the depth is known (<em>i.e. the value of x is known</em>)

We simply substitute this in the function, to calculate the diameter

Take for instance:

\mathbf{x = 8}

The diameter of the bowl would be:

\mathbf{y = 0.32x^2 - 1.6x + 2}

Substitute 8 for x

\mathbf{y = 0.32\times 8^2 - 1.6 \times 8 + 2}

\mathbf{y = 20.48 - 12.8 + 2}

\mathbf{y = 9.68}

The above equation means that:

The diameter of the bowl is <em>9.68</em>, when the depth of the bowl is <em>8</em>

which of the following is a true statement a) if AB=CD,then 3CD=3(CD+1). b)if AB=CD,then AB-CD=A-C+B-D. c)if AB=CD,thenAB+EF=CD+
Free_Kalibri [48]

a) if AB = CD, then 3CD = 3(CD + 1) NOT TRUE

example: AB = CD = 1, then 3CD = (3)(1)=3 and 3(CD + 1) = 3(1 + 1) = 3(2) = 6

b) if AB = CD, then AB - CD = A - C + B - D NOT TRUE (it does not make sense because A, B, C and D are points)

c) if AB = CD, then AB + EF = CD + EF TRUE

because

AB = CD    |add EF to both sides

AB + EF = CD + EF

d) if AB = CD, then 2AB = 2A + 2B NOT TRUE (it does not make sense because A and B are points).
