Please explain this problem. I don't know what its asking, or what to do.
matrenka [14]
The answers are x=4 and y=323/2

1) 40/2x-3=8

Multiply both sides by 2x-3 to get rid of fraction

40= 8(2x-3)

Distribute 8

40= 16x-24

Add 24 to both sides

64=16x

Divide by 16

4=x

2) 2y-3/40=8

Multiply both sides by 40 to red rod of fraction

2y-3=320

Add 3 to both sides

2y= 323

Divide by 2

Y=323/2

Now just describe the differences in solving them

FYI / means fraction, right after the slash is bottom of fraction

Noel and Casey both start at the same place. Noel walks due south and Casey walks due east. After some time has passed, Noel is
Dovator [93]

Answer:

2.04 miles per hour

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

Noel

n_1 =6miles

r_1 = 2mph

Casey

c_1 = 8miles

r_2 =1mph

Required

The rate at which the distance increases

Their movement forms a right triangle and the distance between them is the hypotenuse.

At n_1 =6miles and c_1 = 8miles

The distance between them is:

d_1 = \sqrt{n_1^2 + c_1^2}

d_1 = \sqrt{6^2 + 8^2}

d_1 = \sqrt{100}

d_1 = 10miles

After 1 hour, their new position is:

New = Old + Rate * Time

n_2 = n_1 + r_1 * 1

n_2 = 6 + 2 * 1 = 8

And:

c_2 = c_1 + r_2 * 1

c_2 = 8 + 1 * 1 = 9

So, the distance between them is now:

d_2 = \sqrt{n_2^2 + c_2^2}

d_2 = \sqrt{8^2 + 9^2}

d_2 = \sqrt{145}

d_2 = 12.04

The rate of change is:

\triangle d = d_2 -d_1

\triangle d = 12.04 -10

\triangle d = 2.04

How do I solve 2cos(x)=2sin(2x)
Vedmedyk [2.9K]
2cosx=2sin2x. Sin2x is an identity for 2sinxcos. So 2[2sinxcosx] gives you 4sinxcosx. 2cosx=4sinxcosx. Divide 2cosx on both sides and gives you 2sinx=0 and divide again, sinx=0. Sinx is 0 at 0 and 360 degrees, or pi and 2pi. So thats what x would be. 0,360,pi,2pi.

If the length of an object decreases while its width and height remain unchanged,will its volume increased or decreased?
Rom4ik [11]
The volume will decrease.

If everything else remains the same then it will decrease. If other sides were increased proportionally then it would stay the same. It would increase if other sides were enlarged more than the length was shortened.
