The global battle known as World War I lasted from 1914 until 1918. It was mostly fought in Europe, it also stretched to a Middle East, Africa, & Asia. It is sometimes referred to as the Great War or the First World War. Rifles, machine guns, and artillery made up the majority of the weapons used to fight the conflict.

  • Ferdinand's murder sparked a war in Europe that continued until 1918.
  • The Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire) engaged in combat with the Allies—Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Canada, Japan, and the United States—during the war (the Allied Powers).
  • The horrors of battlefields and new military innovations contributed to World War I's extraordinary levels of death and damage.

  • It was referred to as "The Great War," a dreadful land, air, and sea combat that claimed the lives of over 6.6 million civilians in addition to nearly 8 million military troops.
