When the -ing form of a verb is used as the main verb of the predicate, the auxiliary must contain a form of be.

What is a verb?

It should be noted that a verb simply means a action word that's used to illustrate that something has occured.

In this case, when the -ing form of a verb is used as the main verb of the predicate, the auxiliary must contain a form of be.

Both Catcher in the Rye and The House on Mango Street deal with the experience of finding one’s identity and the idea of innocen
Mrac [35]

We can actually see here that identity is seen in both both "Catcher in the Rye" and "The House on Mango Street".

In "Catcher in the Rye", Holden is seen to be passive and search for his identity. He tends to be unwilling to associate with the people around him. In "The House on Mango Street", Esperanza in search for identity tries to do that through self-awareness. She tends to remove her confidence in men and tried to struggle on her own. She losses her innocence when her childhood is taken from her at a young age.

What is identity?

Identity refers to a distinguishing characteristic of someone which is usually used to recognize or identify someone.

In both "Catcher in the Rye" and "The House on Mango Street", we see the struggle for identity that the characters pursue. Innocence is seen as part of the theme in both.

Which sentence uses a verb that agrees with its subject? A. Into the tall grasses hop the young rabbit. B. On the fire escape si
shusha [124]
B. On the fire escape sit two stray cats

A general rule is that subject has to match verb.

(A) is wrong because one rabbit HOPS, not hop
(C) is wrong because two lands WERE at war, not was
(D) is wrong because they HAVE, not has
(B) is correct because two stray cats sit

*notice that when there's an "s" in the noun, or if the noun is plural, then the verb lacks an "s", and when there isn't an "s" at the end of the noun (it's singular), then the verb DOES have an "s". This is the rule of thumb (there are exceptions though)
