In the continental United States, West Nile virus (WNV) is the primary culprit of mosquito-borne illness.

It is most usually transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito. WNV cases occurs in seasons of mosquito, which begins in the summer and lasts into the fall.

The virus causes life-threatening diseases, such as encephalitis, meningitis, or meningoencephalitis. There is no vaccine available to prevent the disease namely West Nile virus.
