The myth is something that is in general considered to be the product of someone's imagination, but also we can not neglect the fact that some of the people that created the myths actually believed in those things, so we can not just classify it as a lie or untruth.
Also, there's lot of myths that are still very debatable, as there has been some that turned out to be real, for some it has been an exaggerated depictions of real life things, while some are very uncertain as to weather they are just imagination or there's some real life basis for them.
