This story is about an post-apocalyptic world in which a man, John, struggles to find the "Place of the Gods", following the beliefs and customs of his people, the hill people. Many are the adventures faced by this character as he undertakes what his father used to believe was a spiritual pathway, but that in truth was a journey to find the forbidden place.
