Poverty is  defined as the state of lacking a sufficient amount of money or material possessions in a particular locality.

In the United States, poverty is not evenly distributed based on race, gender, occupation and social status, it is not distributed on the basis of such factors.

The three main factors that are associated with this distribution are employment, unfavorable household structure and retirement.
