A study showed that low-intensity vibration therapy reduces pain levels in patients with fibromyalgia. During each session in th

e study, vibration pads were placed on the pain
site indicated by the patient. Pain reduction was measured through self-reporting after each session.
Another study is being designed to examine whether low-intensity vibration therapy also reduces pain in patients suffering from ruptured disks in the lumbar region of the back.
Three hundred male patients are subjects in the new study.
Part A: What is an appropriate design for the new study? Include treatments used, method of treatment assignment, and variables that should be measured. (4 points)
Part B: If the study consisted of 150 male and 150 female patients instead of 300 male patients, would you change the study design? If so, how would you modify your design
? If not, why not? (4 points)
Part C: Could your design be double-blind? Explain. (2 points)

A study showed that low-intensity vibration therapy reduces pain levels in patients with fibromyalgia. What is an appropriate design for the new study? If the study consisted of 150 male and 150 female patients instead of 300 male patients?, as well as  Could your design be double-blind? are explained as

1) To get around the placebo effect, it is recommended that vibration pads be applied to the area of discomfort and that pain be measured objectively using instruments, rather than via subjective reporting. Time spent in treatment, preexisting pain levels, post-vibration pain levels throughout the day, and total daily pain intensity should all be tracked, as well as the individuals' ages.

2) To avoid any potential bias in the findings, we would split the sample evenly between male and female individuals (150 total) and use them in both the control and experimental groups (150 total).

3) Since the placebo effect may be introduced by revealing to either the subjects or the experimenters which group each individual is a part of, our design would indeed be double-blind.

<h3>What is a medical study?</h3>

Generally, a medical study is simply defined as A medical study is a trial used to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and effectiveness of potential treatments.

Medical studies  are very constrained and hidden from the public eye until results are in

What is the midpoint of EF If E has the coordinates of (2,4) and F has coordinates of (6,8)
allsm [11]

Answer:

\boxed {\boxed {\sf (4,6) }}

Step-by-step explanation:

The midpoint formula is:

(\frac{{x}_{1}+{x}_{2}}{2},\frac{{y}_{1}+{y}_{2}}{2} )

where (x₁, y₁) and (x₂, y₂) are the points are the endpoints.

We are given the points: (2,4) and (6,8). Therefore,

x_1=2\\y_1=4 \\x_2=6 \\y_2=8

Substitute the values into the formula.

(\frac{2+6}{2},\frac{4+8}{2})

Find the x coordinate first.

  • Add 2 and 6: 2+6=8
  • Divide by 2: 8/2=4

(4, \frac{4+8}{2})

Find the y-coordinate next.

  • Add 4 and 8: 4+8= 12
  • Divide by 2: 12/2=6

(4,6)

The midpoint of EF is (4,6)

Point R is at (2, 1.2) and Point T is at (2, 2.5) on a coordinate grid. The distance between the two points is
Sergeu [11.5K]
<h3>Answer:   1.3</h3>

========================================

Work Shown:

The two points we have are (x_1,y_1) = (2,1.2) and (x_2,y_2) = (2,2.5)

Apply the distance formula

d = \sqrt{(x_1-x_2)^2+(y_1-y_2)^2}\\\\d = \sqrt{(2-2)^2+(1.2-2.5)^2}\\\\d = \sqrt{(0)^2+(-1.3)^2}\\\\d = \sqrt{0+1.69}\\\\d = \sqrt{1.69}\\\\d = 1.3\\\\

-------------------------

A shortcut is possible by subtracting the y coordinates of the two points, and making the result positive through the use of absolute value.

So we either say

|y1-y2| = |1.2-2.5| = |-1.3| = 1.3

or,

|y2 - y1| = |2.5 - 1.2| = |1.3| = 1.3

We get the same result. This shortcut is valid because the x coordinates of both points are the same.

The heights of dogs, in inches, in a city are normally distributed with a population standard deviation of 7 inches and an unkno
Mice21 [21]

Answer:

The 95% confidence interval  is  17.932  <  \mu <  20  + 22.068

Step-by-step explanation:

From the question we are told that

  The population standard deviation is  \sigma =7 \ inches

  The sample size is  n  =  20

  The sample mean is  \= x  = 20

From the question we are told the confidence level is  95% , hence the level of significance is

      \alpha = (100 - 95 ) \%

=>   \alpha = 0.05

Generally from the normal distribution table the critical value  of  \frac{\alpha }{2} is

   Z_{\frac{\alpha }{2} } =  1.96

Generally the margin of error is mathematically represented as

      E = Z_{\frac{\alpha }{2} } *  \frac{\sigma }{\sqrt{n} }

=>    E = 1.96 *  \frac{7 }{\sqrt{20} }

=>    E = 2.068

Generally 95% confidence interval is mathematically represented as

      \= x -E <  \mu <  \=x  +E

=>     20  - 2.068  <  \mu <  20  + 2.068

=>     17.932  <  \mu <  20  + 22.068
