The "Four Freedoms" were the goals stated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1941 State of the Union address. Roosevelt also explained the participation that the United States was to have in the Second World War.

Many Americans did not want the U. S. to get involved in the war due to the terrible experiences of WWI. Therefore, Roosevelt's audience did not agree with him for the most part. However, the commitment included aid to allies, but not direct participation.

The speech proved to be one of the most popular speeches in history.
