If triangle RST and RZX are similar then the perimeter of triangle RZX is 150 units.

Given triangle RZX and RST are similar and RZ=28, RY=40,ZY=16 and SW=24.

In the similar triangles the ratio of sides are in proportion to the sides of other triangle.

The ratio of ZY to SW is 16:24 meaning it is 2:3. So all the sides of RST are 1.5 times as long as RZX.

RZ=28 so RS=28*1.5=42

RX=40 so RT=40*1.5=60

ZX=ZY+XY and since they are the of the same length , ZX=32 (ZY given)

Then ST=48

Perimeter of a triangle is the sum of sides of the triangle.

Perimeter of RST=RS+ST+RT

=42+60+48

=150

Hence the perimeter of triangle RST is 150 units.

Question is incorrect as it should be as under:

Given the following information, calculate the perimeter of triangle RST. Assume triangle RZX is similar to RST. RZ=28, RY=40, ZY=16 and SW=24.

Figure should also be given.

For the first one his car used 8/340 or 2/85 gallons for one mile.

After the fix, his car 7/350 or 1/50 gallons for one mile.

Then you subtract 1/50-2/85 to get (17-10)/850 or 7/850.

You multiply this by 4 to get 28/850 which is $0.0329411

Since it is asking for cents you multiply by 100 to get approximately 3 cents.

The base of a solid is bounded by the curve y = sqrt (x+1) the x-axis and the line x = 1. the cross sections, taken perpendicula
Andrei [34K]

See attached for a sketch of some of the cross sections.

Each cross section has area equal to the square of the side length, which in turn is the vertical distance between the curve y = √(x + 1) and the x-axis (i.e. the distance between them that is parallel to the y-axis). This distance will be √(x + 1).

If the thickness of each cross section is ∆x, then the volume of each cross section is

∆V = (√(x + 1))² ∆x = (x + 1) ∆x

As we let ∆x approach 0 and take infinitely many such cross sections, the total volume of the solid is given by the definite integral,

\displaystyle \int_{-1}^1 (x+1) \, dx = \left(\frac{x^2}2 + x\right) \bigg|_{-1}^1 = \boxed{2} ~~~~ (B)
