Harmful algal blooms are characterized by a rapid increase in the population of a type of algae that produces toxins. Toxins are

chemicals that are poisonous to living things. The rapid reproduction of this type of algae is caused by the presence of sunlight, warm water, and an increase in the level of nutrients in the water. The nutrients come from farms that use chemicals to make their plants healthy. They are carried to lakes and rivers by runoff.
Suppose this scenario was modeled in the lab. How would the populations of the biotic factors be affected?

There will be a decrease in the population of the biotic factors as a result of the presence of the harmful algal blooms.

What are Biotic factors?

These are referred to the living components which are present in the ecosystem and examples include fish etc.

Presence of harmful algal blooms means there will be poisoning of the living organisms which will result in their death and reduction. This is therefore the ways in which the populations of the biotic factors will be affected.

How does frshwater ecosystems help with flood conrol
Elenna [48]

Answer: In terrestrial ecosystems the presence of vegetation in floodplains and watersheds can reduce the occurrence and severity of flooding by slowing water flows, enhancing percolation and storage, and allowing gradual release of water, thereby maintaining base flows and reducing peak flows.
