In modern times, people have lots of different opinions about who or what determines our lives. Many people have faith that a di

vine being is in control of our lives, and that we are just moving along a course that's been determined for us from birth. In that sense, we may feel as though we make our own choices, but in fact, that higher power is directing our choices. Create ONE post that answers the following prompt. According to modern people, who or what determines the outcome of people's lives? Is that similar to or different from what the ancient Greeks thought? Do you believe in fate? Why or why not?

Which of the following is one way in which Francis Scott Key develops the "glory" of the American flag?
ch4aika [34]

Answer:

A. He builds tension before revealing that the flag is still standing

Explanation:

When he wrote his poem, "Defence of Fort M'Henry," in which he described the events of the bombardment of Fort McHenry, Francis Scott Key had just witnessed the attack on Fort McHenry. In his poem, Key described the dreary and exciting atmosphere of the attack first before he revealed to the reader that despite it all, the flag was still standing. This developed the glory of the American flag in his poem because he was kind of saying that despite all the British's best attempts, the Americans' glorious flag was still there.

What is implied at the end of this chapter when White Fang follows after Collie rather than accompanying his master on his ride?
EleoNora [17]

Answer:

1. Author Kristin Lewis writes, "Tutankhamen is a drop of water in the ocean of history. " This line contains _______.
Studentka2010 [4]

The line "Tutankhamen is a drop of water in the ocean of history" contains a type of figurative language called metaphor, as is further explained below.

What is metaphor?

 • Metaphor is a type of figurative language.
 • It is used to compare different things, people, etc.
 • Metaphor does NOT rely on the words "like" or "as" for the comparison.
 • It states that "thing A is thing B" rather than "thing A is like thing B."

With the information above in mind, we can identify the use of metaphor in the line by Lewis. She states that Tutankhamen is a drop of water in the ocean of history, comparing the young pharaoh to a single drop of water.

Her purpose with such a comparison is to show that, in terms of all history, Tutankhamen's story is quite small, maybe even insignificant.
