Inference indicates that the author include this description because: he wants to "to present Zeitoun as a new Orleans resident and family man" (Option A)

What is an inference?

The conclusion that is reached after the logical examination of a text is called an inference.

The textual evidence that supports the above is: "Zeitoun had picked up and dropped off friends and relatives at the station a handful of times over the years."

Full Question

Read the excerpt from part 4 of Zeitoun.

Zeitoun had picked up and dropped off friends and relatives at the station a handful of times over the years. Fronted by a lush lawn and palm trees, the Union Passenger Terminal had opened in 1954, an art deco-style building once aspiring to grandness but since overtaken by a certain grey municipal malaise. There was a whimsical candy-colored sculpture on the lawn that looked like a bunch of child's toys glued together without reason or order.

Why does the author include this description?

 • to present Zeitoun as a New Orleans resident and family man
 • to criticize the architectural choices in downtown New Orleans
 • to illustrate the grim, military realities of post-Katrina New Orleans
 • to show Zeitoun's discomfort in the grand downtown area.

Read the excerpt.
Vera_Pavlovna [14]

Answer:

D. The excerpt should be revised because it contains a dependent clause that leaves the writer’s thought unfinished.

Explanation:

The given excerpt needs revision because it is incomplete sentence. The sentence begins with 'because' which represents 'sentence fragments.' Sentence fragments is that incomplete sentence which is disconnected from it's main clause.

The excerpt needs an independent clause to present the complete and finished thoughts of the writer. It is a dependent clause and therefore, does not gives author's finished thoughts. Therefore, option D is correct.

Crank

Answer:

LOOK BELOW!

Explanation

Since you didn't provide the text i have a hopefully helpful response of steps for your work. FIRST,YOU PICK a character from the story or text, NEXT, you will try to SUMMARIZE THE TEXT, once you did that write down your summary, THEN, you start writing your essay, start off with introducing the character you picked in the first sentence of the essay, REMEMBER THIS FIRST PART OF THE ESSAY IS A GRABBER AND TRYING TO ATTRACT THE READER so try asking a question, or using a pathos, or you can use a grabber by your choice, for example, like, "(charecters name) is a outgoing and smart student in her school, would you compare to her?", FINALLY, you are going to then describe and explain, the purpose of the charecter in the story, his/hers motivation (what keeps him/her motivated), and the other things your teacher listed!
