The sympathetic nervous system (SNS) is one of two main divisions of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). In other words, this system prepares the body for strenuous physical activity. The events that we would expect to occur within the body to allow this to happen do, in fact, occur.

The sympathetic nervous system activates the fight or flight response during a threat or perceived danger, and the parasympathetic nervous system restores the body to a state of calm. The parasympathetic system regulates “rest and digest” functions, It basically undoes the work of sympathetic division after a stressful situation.
