Many of them opposed the Civil and were Southern sympathizers. Many wanted to end the war and opposed
Lincoln’s efforts. Former General George
McCellan ran for president against Lincoln promising peaceful negotiations with
the South. He lost the election against
Lincoln.
The significance of the civil rights movement was to get support for civil rights laws already in place to help African Americans. even though these laws had already passed few people were upholding them. causing mistreatment and even death to many African Americans. they wanted to be viewed as equal and together. the significance of the women's movement was a series of political campaigns. for reform of many issues they faced such as domestic violence, reproductive rights, maternity leave, equal pay, sexual violence and harassment.
