A HIPAA authorization for research use of PHI(protected health information) is generally always required if the data meet the definition of PHI and fall within HIPAA research.

What is HIPAA?

This is referred to as Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and helps to protect sensitive health information.

There is the necessity to ensure customer's data aren't disclosed to a third party or without consent which is why the act was formulated to ensure strict compliance.

The data must meet the criteria for Protected Health Information and fall within research group for consent to be given for it to be used for such type of purposes as depicted above which is therefore the main reason why it was chosen as the most appropriate choice.
