Vasopressin, also referred to as antidiuretic hormone (ADH), is a hormone secreted by the posterior pituitary gland. Arteriole constriction and tubular permeability to water are both increased by ADH. This aids in regulating both blood pressure and urine production.
Sensors (baroreceptors) in the heart and big blood vessels can identify a drop in blood volume or low blood pressure that happens after dehydration or a hemorrhage. These encourage the secretion of anti-diuretic hormones.
