But if you wish also to see a State at fever-heat, I have no objection. For I suspect that many will not be satisfied with the s

impler way of life. They will be for adding sofas, and tables, and other furniture; also dainties, and perfumes, and incense, and courtesans, and cakes, all these not of one sort only, but in every variety; we must go beyond the necessaries of which I was at first speaking, such as houses, and clothes, and shoes: the arts of the painter and the embroiderer will have to be set in motion, and gold and ivory and all sorts of materials must be procured.
–The Republic,
Plato

How does Plato use reasoning in this excerpt?

He moves from specific observations of people to a general conclusion about art.

He moves from a premise about people to specific predictions about how they will behave.

He moves from a narrow claim about trends in his society to a broad claim about trends in all societies.

He moves from narrow observations of how people behave to a broad conclusion about people.

What does say i can or i cant and your right either way mean ?
Margaret [11]
I think this is coming from the Henry Ford quote, which is "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't--you're right."

This quote basically means that what you think you can do is all in your mind and how you perceive yourself.  if you think you can do something, then you'll be able to do it.  If you think you can't do something, then you won't be able to, because you have already given up in your mind.

Does that make sense?

"My friends and I lazed around all morning." If you wished to rewrite this sentence in a manner that gives the same denotation,
Levart [38]

Answer:

(C) My friends and I relaxed all morning.

Explanation:

The sentence "My friends and I lazed around all morning" has a negative connotation to it since "laze" implies laziness. However, "My friends and I relaxed all morning" means the same without the negative connotation.
