The death penalty brings some closure to the victim's family and can help them cope with the suffering. Without the death penalty, some criminals would continue to commit crimes. discourage prisoners already serving life sentences from committing more serious crimes.

Among the general population, 64% believe the death penalty for murder is morally justified and 33% believe it is unjust. An overwhelming proportion of those who support the death penalty (90%) says it is morally justified in such circumstances, compared with his 25% of those who oppose it.

The debate over the death penalty has long revolved around morality. Proponents argue that punishment must be commensurate with the crime and that taking a life is worth losing. I claim it can't be done.

Justice requires that society imposes on the criminal the losses that society has imposed on the innocent. By inflicting death on those who deliberately inflict death on others, the death penalty ensures justice for all.
