The panama canal is an artificial waterway created by engineering processes firstly by the French and it was continued and completed by the Americans. the canal connected the Atlantic ocean with the pacific ocean stretching over 82 km and it took ships about 11.3 hours to cross over it. the panama canal cuts through the Isthmus of Panama which separates the Caribbean sea ( Atlantic ocean ) from the pacific ocean. the strip of land link the north and south.

The canal cuts across three very important lakes known as :  artificial Gatun lake, Miraflores lake and artificial lake Alajuela.
