The Act that prohibits the intake of alcohol is known as the Volstead Act. This Act was enacted in the year 1919. It was an act to prevent the intake of 'intoxicated drinks' without specifying the type. The US Government was able to have the power to levy this ban on any ' intoxicated drink ' by passing a few legislations.

One of the distinct purposes of the Act was to prohibit the intake of intoxicating beverages like beer, liquor, and alcohol. The other purposes were to regulate the manufacture and sale of these intoxicating drinks. This Act also provided that no person till the age of eighteen can have any dealing with the business of alcohol unless specified by the Act.
