By Translantic slave trade one million Africans were brought to south America and the Caribbean.

Between 10-12 million enslaved Africans were carried through the transatlantic slave trade, a component of the global slave trade, from the 16th-19th centuries to the Americas.

The so-called triangle trade, which involved the transport of slaves from Africa to the Americas, sugar and coffee from the Americas to Europe, and arms, textiles, and wine from Europe to Africa, was in its second of three stages at the time.

Nine out of ten slaves who were kidnapped in Africa were transported by the British, Portuguese, or French.

Therefore, by Translantic slave trade one million Africans were brought to south America and the Caribbean.

Compare and contrast Davis and Moore’s functionalist perspective of social stratification with Mosca’s conflict perspective of s
Alex Ar [27]

Answer:

The comparison and contrast of Davis and Moore’s functionalist perspective of social stratification with Mosca’s conflict perspective of social stratification lies on the concept of social position and power.

Explanation:

Davis and Moore's functionalist perspective of social stratification and Mosca’s conflict perspective of social stratification all emphasize on the presence of a power structure in a society which directly corresponds to the position of an individual. They all believed that society operates according to the social needs and that every individual performs their tasks accordingly.

The line of distinction between Davis and Moore's functionalist perspective and Mosca’s conflict perspective lies in the nature of men. Mosca believes that man is evil and dominating by nature and that compels him/her to misuse his position. He brings out the authority and power of the ruling class as an example to this argument. He argues that people in good position will eventually become more powerful as men are ambitious and selfish. They will gradually exploit people from lower position and use their power for their own personal gains.

While on the other hand, Davis and Moore argue that the greater the role of an individual is, the greater should be the reward. They illustrate the idea that people with bigger and greater roles should be given more importance because of their greater contributions to the society. Their perspective of social stratification emphasize that not everyone can perform the exclusive task of the doctors, therefore those who could perform such complicated tasks should be paid and rewarded more. Davis and Moore do not consider misuse of position and power by people of great influence.

In my opinion, Davis and Moore’s functionalist perspective of social stratification is more applicable and realistic. The fact that those who worked hard deserves a reward is a universal doctrine. These people spent a lot of effort and time before acquiring the position they are in today. Their effort and hard work should be rewarded greatly as they will contribute significantly to the society. Though, this perspective does not bring into account the chances of misuse of power and position, such elements can be controlled through efficient law and state control.

List the two main categories of state tax revenue
Ber [7]

Answer:

Explanation:

State & Local Revenue

Taxes represent the largest single source of revenue for state and local governments. Additional sources of state and local government revenue include intergovernmental transfers from the federal government, or from state to local governments, selective sales taxes, and direct charges for utilities, licenses, or entities such as higher education institutions and insurance trusts. For the 20 years, 1996-2015 state and local governments derived approximately 45 percent of revenues from taxes, 18 percent of revenues from the federal government, and approximately 25 percent from service and utility charges.

State and local governments collect tax revenues from three primary sources: income, sales, and property taxes. Income and sales taxes make up the majority of combined state tax revenue, while property taxes are the largest source of tax revenue for local governments, including school districts. Tax revenues fluctuate in response to changes in economic conditions and tax policies.

For the past 20 years, property taxes have accounted for approximately 31 percent of all state and local government tax revenue, with sales and income taxes each accounting for approximately one-quarter of total revenues. Other levies, which includes selective sales taxes, such as for alcohol and tobacco, and licenses, such as for hunting and motor vehicle operation, account for nearly 18 percent. These percentages may be different for a given year within the period. Property taxes are the most volatile, ranging from 25 percent to nearly 57 percent, and sales taxes are the least volatile, ranging from 21 percent to 35 percent. Income taxes ranged from 21.5 percent to 44 percent.
