After 5 years the age of George will be x + 5 and the age of Harry will be y + 5

Two years ago the age of Harry = y - 2

In 5 years George will be twice as Harry was 2 years ago.

So we get an equation,

x + 5 = 2(y - 2) ..............(2)

Substitute the value of x in equation (2)

⇒ x + 5 = 2(y - 2)

⇒ y + 8 + 5 = 2y - 4

⇒ y + 13 = 2y - 4

⇒ y = 17

Substitute the above value of y in equation (1)

⇒ x = 17 + 8

⇒ x = 25

Therefore, the present age of George is 25 years and the present age of Harry is 17 years
