In Japan the listeners sometimes close their eyes to show respect for the speaker's ideas.

Eye contact is considered aggressive in Japan. People will look away if you look them in the eye. It's considered unfriendly or intrusive to make direct eye contact. Brief eye contact is acceptable, but you should look elsewhere for the most of the talk.

The act of closing eyes when someone is sharing one's ideas is considered as paying reverence.

Since, maintaining an eye contact is considered aggressive in Japan, to demonstrate their regard and respect for the speaker's ideas, Japanese listeners occasionally close their eyes.

What is the main purpose of a speech bubble in a graphic novel?
kobusy [5.1K]

Speech bubbles in comics or graphic novels are essential tools that are used to convey dialogue that is being uttered aloud. They are one of the most important elements because they reveal what an author is going to depict in a story and how characters vary from one another.

The bubble is also depicted in different shapes indicating someone may be yelling (pointy), thinking (cloud-shaped), whispering (dotted lines), or speaking in a manner different than the other characters (different font, bubble shape).
